Remember, O Virgin Mother of God
Varia

A prayer for a happy death based, in part, upon the Stabat Mater.

RECORDARE, Virgo Mater Dei, dum steteris in conspectu Domini, ut loquaris pro nobis bona et ut avertat indignationem suam a nobis. REMEMBER, O Virgin Mother of God, when thou shalt stand in the sight of the Lord, speak good things for us and to turn away His indignation from us.
Sancta Mater, istud agas,
Crucifixi fige plagas
Cordi meo valide.
Holy Mother, pierce me through,
In my heart each wound renew,
Of my Savior crucified.
Fac, ut portem Christi mortem,
Passionis fac consortem,
Et plagas recolere.
Let me to my last breath,
In my body bear the death
Of that dying Son of thine.
Flammis ne urar succensus,
Per te, Virgo, sim defensus
In die iudicii.
Be to me, O Virgin, nigh
Lest in flames I burn and die
In that awful judgment day.
Christe, cum sit hinc exire,
Da per Matrem me venire
Ad palmam victoriae.
Christ, when Thou shalt call me hence,
Be Thy Mother my defense,
Be Thy Cross my victory.
Quando corpus morietur,
Fac, ut animae donetur
Paradisi gloria. Amen.
While my body here decays,
May my soul Thy goodness praise
Safe in paradise with Thee. Amen.
V. Ora pro nobis, quaesumus, Virgo dolorosissima.
R. Quae iuxta crucem Iesu constitisti.
V. Pray for us, O most sorrowful Virgin,
R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Oremus:
Amen.
Let us pray:
Let intercession be made for us, we beseech Thee, O Lord Jesus Christ, now and at the hour of our death, before the throne of Thy mercy, by the blessed Virgin Mary, Thy Mother, whose most holy soul was pierced by a sword of sorrow in the hour of Thy bitter Passion. Through Thee, Jesus Christ, Savior of the world, who with the Father and the Holy Spirit livest and reignest for ever and ever. Amen.
Ter: Ave, Maria.... Hail Mary (three times)
