Pauperis in rebus adversis oratio |
Supplication of a poor man in adversity |
Benedictus Deus qui consolatur nos in omni tribulatione nostra (1 Cor 1:3,4) |
Blessed be God who consoles us in all our tribulations (1 Cor 1:3,4) |
2 INCLINA, Domine, aurem tuam et exaudi me, * quoniam inops et pauper sum ego. |
1 LEND, O Lord, Thy ear and hear me, * for I am poor and needy. |
2 Custodi animam meam, quoniam sanctus sum; * salvum fac servum tuum, Deus meus, sperantem in te. |
2 Guard my soul, for I am holy, * save Thy servant who trusteth in Thee, my God. |
3 Miserere mei, Domine, * quoniam ad te clamavi tota die. |
3 Have mercy upon me. Lord, * for I have cried to Thee all day. |
4 Laetifica animam servi tui, * quoniam ad te, Domine, animam meam levavi. |
4 Give joy to the soul of Thy servant, * for Thou, O Lord, hast lifted up my soul to Thee. |
5 Quoniam tu, Domine, suavis et mitis * et multae misericordiae omnibus invocantibus te. |
5 For Thou, O Lord, art sweet and mild, * and full of mercy unto those who call upon Thee. |
6 Auribus percipe, Domine, orationem meam * et intende voci deprecationis meae. |
6 Give ear, O Lord, to my prayer, * and listen to the sound of my plea. |
7 In die tribulationis meae clamavi ad te, * quia exaudies me. |
7 I have cried out to Thee on the day of my tribulation, * because Thou hast heard me. |
8 Non est similis tui in diis, Domine, * et nihil sicut opera tua. |
8 There is none among the gods like Thee, O Lord: and nothing like Thy works. |
9 Omnes gentes, quascumque fecisti, venient et adorabunt coram te, Domine, * et glorificabunt nomen tuum, |
9 All the nations Thou hast made shall come and adore Thee, O Lord, * and they shall glorify Thy Name. |
10 quoniam magnus es tu et faciens mirabilia: * tu es Deus solus. |
10 For Thou art great and dost marvelous things: * Thou alone art God. |
11 Doce me, Domine, viam tuam, * et ingrediar in veritate tua; |
11 Lead me, O Lord, in Thy ways, * and I will walk in Thy truth, |
simplex fac cor meum, * ut timeat nomen tuum. |
make my heart simple, * that it may fear Thy Name. |
12 Confitebor tibi, Domine Deus meus, in toto corde meo * et glorificabo nomen tuum in aeternum, |
12 I will praise Thee, O Lord my God, with my whole heart, and I will glorify Thy name for ever. |
13 quia misericordia tua magna est super me, * et eruisti animam meam ex inferno inferiori. |
13 For Thy great mercy is upon me, * and Thou hast delived my soul from the underworld. |
14 Deus, superbi insurrexerunt super me, et synagoga potentium quaesierunt animam meam * et non proposuerunt te in conspectu suo. |
14 O God, the wicked have risen up against me, and the assembly of the mighty have sought my soul, * and they have not set their eyes upon Thee. |
15 Et tu, Domine, Deus miserator et misericors, * patiens et multae misericordiae et veritatis, |
15 And thou, O Lord God, art compassionate and merciful, * patient, full of mercy, and truthful. |
16 respice in me et miserere mei; da fortitudinem tuam puero tuo * et salvum fac filium ancillae tuae. |
16 Look upon me, and have mercy on me: * lend Thy strength to Thy servant and save the son of Thy handmaid. |
17 Fac mecum signum in bonum, ut videant, qui oderunt me, et confundantur, * quoniam tu, Domine, adiuvisti me et consolatus es me. |
17 Make for me a sign of Thy goodness: that they who hate me may see and be confounded, * because Thou, O Lord, hast helped me and hast comforted me. |
